Otawara, Tochigi, Oct. 2, 2017 - Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation (Headquarters: Otawara, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan; President: Toshio Takiguchi) will change its company name to Canon Medical Systems Corporation on January 4, 2018.
After leaving the Toshiba Group in March 2016 and joining the Canon group in December 2016, Toshiba Medical Systems has been undertaking the procedures for obtaining regulatory approval for integration with Canon and change of the company name under the relevant national or regional laws concerning pharmaceuticals and medical devices. As we are close to completing these procedures on schedule, we would like to announce that the company name will be changed to Canon Medical Systems Corporation on January 4, 2018.
Since its establishment in 1930, Toshiba Medical has introduced a number of "first-in-Japan" and "world's first" medical systems in cooperation with its customers worldwide. With its sales and service network, Toshiba Medical conducts business globally, providing diagnostic imaging systems to more than 140 countries.
Canon first entered the medical equipment business in 1940 with the development of the first domestically produced indirect X-ray camera, and utilizing its advanced imaging technologies, currently produces equipment such as digital X-ray imaging systems and OCT ophthalmic devices. Since its founding, Canon has maintained a strong commitment to the medical equipment business, and will further strengthen the business with the aim of contributing to a safe and secure society.
As a core part of Canon's medical equipment business, Toshiba Medical will continue to expand in order to accelerate the growth of Canon. Based on our management slogan “Made for Life™”, and through integration with Canon, we will continue to contribute to better healthcare throughout the world.
