AI is becoming a familiar technology in our daily life and its role is expanding day by day. According to the engineering industry workshop I recently attended, AI is naturally employed as a standard for performing analysis in research. The participants in the workshop were also engaged in active discussions on analysis results using AI. It is expected that the introduction of AI will contribute to improving the accuracy and quality of medical care as well as reducing the workload at healthcare sites.

Canon Medical Systems has released analysis software that utilizes algorithms developed using AI. This software, which has been jointly developed through academic-industrial cooperation with Fujita Health University, indicates the presence of findings in CT images which are often observed in patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia.

Under "Altivity", a brand name of Canon Medical Systems, we are promoting AI in our healthcare business in order to improve the efficiency of the entire workflow, encompassing disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. Drawing on the extensive knowledge and experience accumulated at healthcare sites, this will enable provision of higher quality medical services. Starting with "AiCE", image reconstruction technology that was developed based on deep learning techniques at the design stage, and utilizing AI technologies such as "Automation Platform", we have developed automatic reading support solutions. We will advance to the next step, expansion to a diagnostic support system, by utilizing image and non-image information.

Based on our Made for Life philosophy, we provide medical systems and devices to facilities around the world in order to contribute to life-saving medical care. We also provide support to those facilities so that the systems and devices can always perform at their best.
